With Long Term Evolution (LTE), also known as 4G, comes a new radio platform technology that will revolutionize mobile broadband usage, allowing users to access multimedia and other content at even higher speeds than in 3G and WiFi networks. The Clavister LTE/SEG Blade helps operators secure their LTE networks at speeds up to 20 Gbps IPsec VPN throughput per blade and scale seamlessly to 280 Gbps with the Clavister Security Systems 6016 carrier-graded ATCA chassis.
With more bandwidth comes new challenges
As new LTE/4G networks is scheduled to provide radically higher bandwidth capacity, it also introduces a whole new set of issues, such as throughput, scalability and security issues.
Always-on devices with high-speed connections, even higher than domestic or corporate Internet connections, will attract the attention of organized hackers driven by financial gain. It is not a question whether this will happen, it is question of when. This will unquestionably happen because 4G handsets and the 4G core networks makes a much better vehicle, thanks to its high Internet capacity which is crucial when launching for example Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, spam relaying and other forms of attacks.
Clavister LTE/SEG Blade
The Clavister LTE/SEG security solution enables telecom operators deploying LTE/4G networks the possibility to address this type of security issues by protecting the core network against malicious traffic from untrusted sources.
In an LTE/4G network there are several untrusted sources, such as traffic from the Internet over the S1 interface, from other operators over the Za interface or within the same operator network where the Zb interfaces may be connected in a way that may lead to security breaches. To avoid bandwidth starvation or other abnormal traffic behavior, Clavister LTE/SEG supports advanced Quality of Service (QoS) and Rate Limiting functionality to help avoid costly and disruptive service incidents.
To cope with the constant demand for higher bandwidth, Clavister LTE/SEG handles routing, firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) capacity at record breaking speeds up to 560 Gbps. Operators can easily manage their capacity requirements and seamlessly scale capacity as needed thanks to the unique distribution capabilities in Clavister LTE/SEG and its use of Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) chassis. Simply add more processing blades to increase the capacity by 40 Gbps per blade. There is no need to change topology or introduce additional management, maintenance or administration.
Clavister LTE/SEG is designed for mission-critical solutions, with the highest possible demands on robustness and fault tolerant in both hardware and software. This ensures maximum uptime in mission-critical environments and the best possible in-service-performance.
